Budget-Friendly Healthy Eating

So, I got the idea for this blog when a very good friend posted on her Facebook page that it is cheaper to eat your way fat but it is expensive if you want to eat healthy. So, although it seems counterintuitive, the poorer we get as a nation, the fatter we get. It seems so counter that we have less money yet we gain more weight. I suspect that it isn't simply that we are only able to afford fattening food but that, due to the barren wastelands that our finances have become, we are also very stressed. For many, stress means overindulging- alcohol, drugs, smoking, and yes, food! Which means that our normal meals are cheaper when we buy the carb-laden, fat-stricken foods but that our comfort foods are also the cheap ones. Oy!

Well, I have been trying to eat healthy for some time. I will admit to being an anxiety-eater and I don't always make good decisions when the stress gets to me. But our normal meals and snacks are all healthy ones. I found that what my friend said is true- the healthier you eat, the lighter your wallet. I started couponing to help ease the strains and it has been most helpful but I mainly coupon for non-grocery products. It's difficult to find those amazing coupon deals for healthy foods. So, while I was saving money on all of my paper, health & beauty, and cleaning products, I was not saving much money on healthy foods.  That's not to say that you can never find good deals on healthy foods, but you have to work hard at it. I also believe in couponing for those non-grocery items as much as possible to ease the wallet strains enough to make room for those healthy foods.

So, I'm going to provide some coupon basics, healthy meals ideas (for 4) that are very budget-friendly, and some deal alerts that you may want to partake in. I also welcome anyone's suggestions and comments and if anyone wants to guest post with their own ideas, just contact me!

Let's adventure together friends and eat healthier but cheaper. We will be frugal and fabulous together, friends!
